For the fifth time this season and 10th time in his career, Creighton University junior Doug McDermott has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week. McDermott averaged 27.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists in two victories last week, extending Creighton’s win streak to 10. He made 21-of-27 shots from the floor (77.8 percent), including 5-of-7 shots from downtown (71.4 percent), and was also 8-of-9 at the foul line (88.9 percent).
McDermott’s 10 Player of the Week honors are second-most in league history, just four behind Bradley’s Hersey Hawkins. Including his seven MVC Newcomer of the Week honors in 2010-11, McDermott has won at least one weekly award from the MVC in 17 of 42 weeks since enrolling at Creighton.
Ranked 10th and 12th nationally, Creighton (16-1, 5-0 MVC) returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts Northern Iowa (9-8, 2-3 MVC) in a 7:05 pm contest at CenturyLink Center Omaha.
