The Husker men are back at home tonight after two grueling road tests last week against ranked teams. The Huskers will host the Purdue Boilermakers. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. (central). Head coach Tim Miles focused these last couple of days in practice on eliminating easy turnovers and mistakes that cost his team what he estimated to be at least 13 points that NU “gave away,” in their 66-55 loss at Michigan State.
Nebraska, which was without two of the top eight players because of injuries, and it looks like Brandon Ubel will miss tonight’s game. Sophomore David Rivers made his first career start and responded with 18 points on a perfect 8-of-8 shooting from the floor and added six rebounds.
Purdue is 8-8 record with a 2-2 Big Ten mark following a 60-42 win over Penn State on Sunday afternoon. Under the direction of eighth-year coach Matt Painter (168-85 at Purdue; 193-90 overall), the Boilermakers have made six straight NCAA Tournament appearances. Purdue has played well of late, winning four of its last six games with the only setbacks in that stretch coming against nationally ranked Ohio State and Michigan State.
The Boilermakers start three freshmen, and are 1-5 in road games with their lone victory coming in a 73-61 victory over Clemson in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Nov. 28.
