A drug raid in Beatrice this morning brought the arrests of seven suspects. Beatrice Police Chief Bruce Lang says several law enforcement agencies were involved, including the Gage County Sheriff, the Nebraska State Patrol and U.S. Marshals.
Chief Lang says there wasn’t a large quantity of drugs seized as these were primarily just warrants for distribution of methamphetamines. No weapons were seized and no problems were encountered. Lang says about 30 law officers were involved in the stings which took place almost simultaneously at several locations.
They tried to do all of the raids at 7:30 A-M to prevent word from getting out that might have led to some of the suspects fleeing, barricading themselves in a home or, in Lang’s words, other “things that are bad.” Lang says the element of surprise played into the arrests.
“You may find this hard to believe but when we served these (warrants) at 7:30 in the morning, a lot of these people aren’t up going to work,” Lang says, laughing. “We find them sleeping in bed or whatever. It makes it a little bit easier.”
The suspects include: 18-year-old Trevor Garton, 43-year-old Brenda Haynes, 19-year-old Eric Lewien, 20-year-old Dylan Pohlman, 20-year-old Steven Schutte, 29-year-old Christina Burr and an unnamed 16-year-old who was arrested for distribution of meth.
