Traffic is moving once again throughout Nebraska in wake of the winter storm that moved through the area.
Nebraska received between five and 12 inches of snow, but it could have been worse.
“I think that Nebraskans did dodge a bullet, but we still need people to drive carefully so that we can keep all the roads open for the rest of the winter,” says Mary Jo Oie, spokeswoman for the Nebraska Department of Roads.
Oie says all roads are open today and traffic is returning to normal.
She says drivers, though, need to be cautions as they travel.
“In some spots in west-central Nebraska where they got a little more snow, there might be still some snow pack on parts of the roads and highways,” Oie says.
Message boards along Interstate 80 will instruct motorists on conditions. Technology combined with a little common sense should keep drivers safe.
“It is winter driving conditions, definitely. There’s a reason why we have all the roads labeled on our traveler information system as extreme caution needed,” Oie says.
