A second death due to the winter storm has been recorded on a Nebraska highway.
The Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office reports that a 12-year-old boy died in a wreck Thursday morning on U.S. Highway 20 five miles west of Gordon. The office says Melissa Jaggers of Rushville lost control of her vehicle and slid into the path of a truck.
Jaggers and her 12-year-old son were taken to Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. The sheriff’s office says the boy died that evening. Jaggers remains hospitalized. A 10-year-old daughter has been taken to a Denver hospital. The office has not released either of the children’s names.
Earlier, a traffic fatality on Interstate 80 in Hamilton County was blamed on the weather.
The Nebraska State Patrol reports that 19-year-old Kristina Allen of Callaway died after an SUV crossed the median of I-80 near Giltner and struck her vehicle.
