2013 is off to a bad start regarding roadway fatalities in Nebraska. Nebraska Highway Safety Department Administrator Fred Zwonechek says from January 1st through February 24th there have been 39 deaths on the state’s roadways. Out of the 39 highway deaths 31 happened in rural areas.
Statistics show highway deaths are up an alarming 56% when compared to data for the previous four years for the same period. Zwonechek says that 65% of those killed on Nebraska roads were not wearing safety belts.
