The American Red Cross has a new cell phone app that will bring safety information to you during a tornado.
Liz Dorland is the Communication Specialist for the American Red Cross, Nebraska – SW Iowa Region and says smart phone and iPad users will be able to get this life saving information before, during and after a tornado.
The app is available in English and Spanish and gives instant access to local and real-time information. It includes a high pitched siren and “tornado warning” alert that signals users when a tornado warning has been issued in their area. It also includes an “all clear” alert to let users know when a tornado warning has expired or has been cancelled.
Users can also access a toolkit that includes a flashlight, strobe light and alarm. The app includes other features like enhanced weather maps and a one-touch “I’m safe” messages that allows users to broadcast reassurance to family and friends that they are out of harms way.
The Tornado App can be found in the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store for android users.
