Instead of sun bathing at the beach hundreds of Nebraska college and high school students are giving up spring break trips to give back to their community. University of Nebraska – Omaha student Dana Christensen is one of them. She is taking part in the annual “Seven Day’s of Service” program and says since 1993 students have been giving up their spring break to perform public service.
Christensen says about 15-hundred volunteers will work throughout the metro area this week. Students do reconstruction and repairs to homes, landscaping, painting and other jobs for low income families. Christensen says students have provided $1.1-million in services in Omaha over the past eleven years.
