The grand seven story Scoular Building at 20th and Dodge Streets in Omaha has quite a history and with a new renovation many, many more years of memory making are yet to come. Scoular Company spokesperson Kim Daniels says the historic ballroom has been completely renovated.
The grand building was constructed in 1929 by the Knights of Columbus and included a swimming pool, gym and handball courts. In 1944 it became the largest American Legion Post in the country and a hub of activity for servicemen returning from World War II.
The building was purchased in 1956 by Northern Natural Gas and in 1987 by the Scoular Company. They started renovations in 1912 and the swimming pool returned along with fitness facilities. Renovations later this year include wedding party dressing rooms and a conference – banquet room.
Thousands from eastern Nebraska and western Iowa have utilized the facility over the past 84 years.
