Omaha Fire Captain Tim McCaw says firefighters saw the flames coming from the building from blocks away. Two firefighters were trapped in a third floor apartment unit when the ceiling collapsed on them. A four member Rapid Intervention Team then went in to rescue the firefighters and assisted them to safety. However, the four member rescue team became trapped when a wall collapsed. They were able to make it out on their own power without any injuries.
He says all residents made it out ok and there were no injuries. More than 30 individuals are displaced and they also evacuated a nearby building as a precaution. The Red Cross and the Salvation Army are helping those displaced. The State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause.
