Spring? What Spring? Winter weather hits Nebraska, again

March 24, 2013 By Brent Martin

It might technically be spring, but a winter weather advisory remains in effect in southeastern Nebraska until noon.

The National Weather Service forecasts mostly cloudy conditions in Nebraska today with snow gradually ending in the East. Highs today should reach the lower 30s in eastern and central Nebraska; just below freezing in the West.

Another chance of snow will occur in central and eastern Nebraska this evening under mostly cloudy skies. Lows will drop into the 20s in eastern Nebraska, between 14 and 20 degrees in central Nebraska and between 7 and 13 degrees in the western portion of the state, according to the Weather Service.

There is a chance of snow in eastern Nebraska on Monday as well.

The Hastings office of the National Weather Service forecasts brisk conditions today. It expects mostly sunny conditions this morning for central and south-central Nebraska, becoming mostly cloudy later in the day. Northwest winds are expected to be 20-to-25mph, with gusts up to 35mph in the afternoon. There is a chance of light snow on Monday.

The National Weather Service office in Omaha predicts breezy conditions today with a 20% chance of light snow. The highs should reach the lower 30s with northwest winds from 15 to 30mph. There remains a 50% chance of snow in the Omaha area tonight with lows dipping down into the mid-20s. The chance of snow on Monday, according to the Weather Service, is 40%.

The North Platte office expects partly sunny skies today in western Nebraska, with only a 20% chance of snow showers this afternoon. The highs should settle into the lower 30s with northerly winds at 10-to-20mph. There is a chance of flurries tonight in western Nebraska; very cold, with lows dropping to around 14 degrees. Winds are expected out of the northwest at 10-to-15mph.
