Some areas of the state will see thunderstorms today and other parts are in a winter storm warning. Barbara Mays is a Meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Valley and says they are keeping a close eye on northeast Nebraska. That area could see an unusually long period of freezing rain that could extend to 24 hours.
Mays says south of the I-80 corridor Nebraskans can expect rain before switching over to snow tomorrow evening. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for the Panhandle through today with strong winds causing blowing and drifting snow.
In central Nebraska, golf ball size hail and strong winds of 70 miles an hour were reported in Kearney Monday night and the storm there damaged several buildings on the University of Nebraska – Kearney campus.
