The storm that hit western Nebraska, hit the University of Nebraska-Kearney hard.
University officials report severe wind damage to the roof of the Calvin T. Ryan Library and the Fine Arts Building on the Kearney campus.
The storm has forced the closing of the library through Wednesday with a planned re-opening on Thursday. The Mitchell Center, which is adjacent to the library, will remain closed at least until Thursday.
Despite the weather, the presentation of Step Afrika! will go on as scheduled at 8pm in the Health and Sports Complex. Crews have cleared the walkways, according to university officials, and performers have arrived safely.
“I am appreciative of the work of the many staff and contractors today that assisted in cleaning the campus and surrounding areas of debris to make it safer for our students, faculty and staff to remain on campus,” said Barbara Johnson, vice chancellor for business and finance, in a written statement issued by UNK.
