Nebraska’s wild turkey spring shotgun season opens Saturday. Nebraska Game and Park Commission spokesman Greg Wagner says 35,000 hunters will take to fields hoping for success. He says hunters are expected to bag 21,000 turkeys during the spring hunting season and that is a little more than a 60% success rate.
Wagner says Nebraska is one of the top 15 states in the number of turkeys harvested each year. Spring wild turkey hunting is one of the fastest growing aspects in the sport of hunting.
Nebraska Game & Parks reminds hunters to heading to the woods Saturday morning to remember to wear some blaze orange clothing and be sure of your target and background. Wagner says one of the most important tips is to make sure to ask the farmer first, meaning get permission to hunt on their land.
