Hondas are among the most stolen cars in the United States and we have seen similar trends here in Omaha.
Since the beginning of the year until the end of March, 179 Hondas were stolen in Omaha. During the same time period, there were twenty-one (21) arrests for motor vehicle theft.
Locally, suspects have been targeting 1990’s and early 2000’s Hondas. Very few makes or models have been immune to thefts but our statistics show some vehicles have been targeted more than others.
The top five makes of vehicles stolen in Omaha for the first three months of 2013 are:
Honda – 179
Chevy – 137
Ford – 71
Dodge – 50
Jeep – 29
The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) encourages everyone to follow what it calls a “layered approach” to auto theft protection by employing simple, low-cost suggestions to make vehicles less attractive to thieves. The four layers include common sense, a warning device, an immobilizing device, and a tracking device.
