Even though it its arrival is late it appears that spring is finally here in Nebraska. Those who suffer with allergies will not welcome the season as they know sneezing and watery eyes will soon follow. Dr. Ted Myatt is an environmental health expert and microbiologist and says allergy sufferers have more to worry about than just the great outdoors. He says we often bring dust, pollen and mold inside with us on our hair, clothing and shoes. He recommends showering, changing clothing and leaving your shoes by the front door to reduce the spread of these annoying triggers.
Dr. Myatt says mold is a huge problem. He says even an isolated area of mold, like a window sill, can trigger symptoms in those allergic to it. He says mold spores travel by air and they will spread. He says dust and pollen gather on TV screens and other electronics so keeping them clean is very important.
Dr. Myatt recommends washing hypoallergenic bedding in very hot water which helps sufferers at night. Keeping windows closed does help but he says for those who have severe problems may want to invest in an air purifier.
