If you put away the winter boots and coat for the season you may have to bring them out of storage. Scott Durgan is a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Valley and says a cold system will move into the state Tuesday. He says by Tuesday night parts of western Nebraska could see a mix of rain and snow while parts of southeast Nebraska experience thunderstorms and rain.
By Wednesday that cold air will move east and temperatures will plunge and eastern Nebraska could see snowfall that evening into Thursday. Durgan expects the heaviest snow to be in central and northeast Nebraska.
While May 1st brings images of Maypoles and baskets of flowers, Durgan says snowfall in May does happen. He says the latest date on record in the Omaha metro area for a spring snow was May 9, 1945 when two inches of snow was reported.
