Millard West remains perfect in state soccer title matches. After titles in 2007 and 2009, West beat Millard North 1-0 to win the Class A championship on Tuesday. Freshman Brenna Ochoa scored the winning goal in the 12th minute of the match with a shot from about 20 yards out hitting just inside the left post and crossbar. It was just her fifth goal of the season and first in the state tournament.
Goalie Jordan Cassalia who won shootout matches in district finals and the state semifinal game, shutout second ranked Millard North.
Millard North had to play the final 12 minutes of the match with one fewer player after a player received a second yellow card.
Omaha Skutt won the third Class B state girls soccer championship in four years with a 3-2 shootout victory against Elkhorn South on Tuesday…ending 5-3 in a penalty kick shootout
With 2:54 remaining in regulation, Carsen Lundgren scored for Elkhorn South after Omaha Skutt couldn’t clear the ball and it deflected off Lundgren and in the goal to put Elkhorn South up 2-1. But, with only 35 seconds remaining in regulation, Elizabeth Bartels scored on a free kick from 30 yards out that tipped off the goalkeeper’s hands to tie the match 2-2 and force overtime.
Bartels is the leading scorer in the state with 23 goals, including four during the state tournament, and was playing on an injured ankle.
