Omaha Westside scored five runs in the first innings leading the way to an 8-0 win over Millard South to claim the Class A baseball championship at Werner Park. The win makes up for Tuesday’s 10-0 loss to South for Westside’s sixth state championship.
Sophomore Mike Waldron allowed six hits, while striking out six and walking one in his complete game shutout. Singles by Devin Stueck, Waldron and Matt Waldron highlighted Westside’s five-run first inning, as the Warriors got to starter Austin Dubsky before he could get an out. Back-to-back doubles by Will Patterson and Jake Meyers scored two runs in the fourth. Meyers came around to score on two errors after his double drove in Patterson.
Jakson Reetz drove in a run and scored twice, then went to the mound and saved Norris’ Class B baseball championship with a 3-2 win over Lincoln Pius X at Haymarket Park. Norris reached the championship game by beating Omaha Gross 9-2 earlier in the day.
Down 3-0 in the third, Pius X cut the lead to 3-1, thanks to a hit batter, a single, a sacrifice and a balk. Cole Felber delivered a pinch-hit single to left to trim the lead to 3-2 in the fifth.
