Nebraska wrestler James Green won this weekend’s 145.5 lb. University Freestyle Nationals title to qualify to represent the United States in the World University Games in Kazan, Russia, this August. Green is a two-time NCAA All-American for the Huskers. Green, who finished seventh at 157 pounds at this season’s NCAA Championships, won eight matches to take home the gold. After winning his first five matches by technical fall, Green pinned Ohio State All-American Hunter Stieber in the semifinals to earn him a spot in the best-of-three final.
In the championship, Green defeated 2012 University World Team member Jason Chamberlain with a 4-2 decision in the first match to take the advantage. However, Chamberlain then won a 5-4 decision in the second round to force a decisive contest. After a hard-fought battle, Green came out with a 3-0 decision to take the title and join the 2013 University World Team.
