There were a pair of top five finishes for the Nebraska track and field team at the NCAA outdoor championships in Eugene, OR. Mara Griva placed fourth in the women’s long jump that included a season’s best 21 ¾ feet. She was also fourth in the triple in 2011, which she will compete in on Friday. Chad Wright came in fifth in the shot put. 62 feet, 2 ¼ inches. He’s got the discus on Friday.
Maggie Malone 10th overall in the women’s javelin to wrap up her freshman season. Kari Heck came in 18th overall in the women’s long jump. She recorded a mark of 19-9 (6.02) on her third attempt to close her freshman year with the Huskers.
Teran Walford completed the first of two days of decathlon action with 3,794 points for 19th. He started his day with a personal-best time of 11.04 in the 100 meters. He went on to post a personal-best leap of 22-6 ½ (6.87) in the long jump before notching a throw of 38-11 ¾ (11.88) in the shot put. He finished the high jump with a clearance of 6-2 ¾ (1.90) and closed the day with a time of 49.33 in the 400 meters.
Miles Ukaoma advanced to Friday’s final of the men’s 400-meter hurdles. He finished first in the second heat with a season-best time of 49.63. His time proved to be the second-fastest time of the day in the event.
