the Nebraska track and field team added another top-eight finish at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, OR. on Thursday as Janis Leitis led the Husker men on the day with an eighth-place showing in the long jump. With Leitis’ performance, Nebraska has totaled four individual top-10 finishes at the Championships.
Leitis earned First-Team All-America honors with his eighth-place finish in the men’s long jump. Having to adjust to the wind, he sealed his finish at the Championships with a leap of 25-8 (7.82) on his final attempt of the competition. Leitis started the day with a leap of 24-11 ¾ (7.61) in the first round, followed by a mark of 25-7 ½ (7.81) in round two. In the third round he produced a leap of 25-4 (7.72) and after fouling in the fourth and fifth rounds, he came up with his mark of 25-8 on his last chance in the competition.
In the team standings, the women are tied for 18th with five points, while the men are also tied for 18th with five points.
