A former student at Grace University claims she hasn’t been allowed to finish her degree at the school, because she came out as a lesbian.
Danielle Powell says she Grace informed in last year that she would not be allowed to continue at the school, because of her sexual orientation.
Grace University is a small, private Christian college in Omaha. Its student handbook states that students involved in immoral behavior regarding premarital and homosexual acts or adultery will be placed on probation and possibly will be required to appear at a hearing.
Powell left the school, but wants to continue her education. She claims that Grace University refuses to release her transcripts so she can enroll at another school.
Grace University Executive Vice President Michael James says that isn’t the case at all. He says they talked to Powell and were more than happy to help with any transfer and provide all the necessary paperwork including the transcripts.
Powell says Grace University also wants her to refund a $6,000 scholarship.
She says a university in Chicago offered to pay that bill as well as cover her tuition at that school. There are apparently several other offers on the table to help repay the money to Grace as well.
Powell says she is considering several options.
