A young man is being held in connection with a fatal shooting at a party in Lincoln this weekend; the first homicide of the year in Lincoln.
Lincoln police arrested 21-year-old Michael Arelleno, Jr. of Lincoln in the shooting death of 38-year-old Shane Newman of Lincoln. Newman died at a Lincoln hospital after suffering numerous gunshot wounds.
Lincoln Police Chief Jim Peshong says officers responded to a local residence Saturday night.
“The investigation revealed that there were words exchanged at a party at that particular location and Mr. Newman had gone outside and ultimately got involved in a fight,” Peshong tells reporters during a news briefing.
Another man, 22-year-old Mohamed Alhaj, was wounded.
Arelleno was initially charged with aiding and abetting, but the county attorney is expected to upgrade those charges.
