A 24-year-old Madison man is believed to have drowned this weekend at Lake North.
The body of Jorge Manuel has yet to be found.
The Platte County Sheriff’s Office conducted a search from Saturday evening and throughout Sunday. Deputies dragged the lake. Strong winds created swift currents that prevented divers from searching the lake.
The Columbus Telegram reports that a helicopter has been scheduled to join the search today. Platte County Sheriff Jon Zavadil tells the newspaper that, weather permitting, the helicopter will fly from Lake North eastward down the Loup Canal to a powerhouse along 3rd Avenue.
A witness reported that Manuel was fishing with family members Saturday night. Manuel went into the water and stayed under. Family members unsuccessfully tried to find him.
