It appears there will be enough votes in the U-S Senate to pass the immigration bill, but it does not have the support of Senator Mike Johanns. He says those here illegally will be rewarded almost immediately and will be eligible for many benefits. He says the Congressional Budget Office says this bill would allow those given legal status access to Pell Grants, student loans, Medicaid, food stamps and dozens of other benefits.
Senator Johanns says he talked with border control experts who say this bill will actually weakens national security and prevents them from doing their job.
He suspects the immigration issue will again be on the table for discussion in another 10 years.
The Senate is scheduled to vote on the bill this afternoon.
