Back in 1913, the Lincoln Highway was state-of-the-art and gave motorists a paved transcontinental route.
U-S Senator Mike Johanns this week introduced legislation that passed in the Senate honoring the 100th anniversary of the Lincoln Highway. He says the midway point is in Kearney and there is a big celebration there on Sunday.
Another is planned just east of Elkhorn between 180th and 192nd Street. At that location a 500th highway historical marker will be placed at the site on Saturday at 1:00 pm. The marker will go up on an original brick section of the highway that is still traveled today.
