It appears StratCom at Offutt Air Force Base near Omaha will soon have a new commander.
The Senate Armed Services Committee has given its blessing and passed the nomination of Admiral Cecil Haney on to the full Senate.
Sen. Deb Fischer, a member of the committee, voted for Haney and says he has experience at the United States Strategic Command.
“As a former StratCom Deputy Commander, he understands Nebraska, he’s no stranger to the mission of StratCom and he’s no stranger to the people of Nebraska,” Fischer says.
Haney left StratCom three years ago to become the Navy’s Pacific Fleet Commander. If approved by the full Senate, Haney will succeed Air Force General C. Robert Kehler who has been the StratCom commander since the beginning of 2011.
Fischer fully supports Haney’s nomination.
“I think he’s a good nominee and I look forward to supporting him when it comes to a vote and I look forward to working with him to support StratCom’s mission going forward.”
