A horrific case of animal dumping in Omaha Friday is getting a lot of attention. Nebraska Humane Society’s Pam Wiese says a man walked into their shelter last Friday morning holding a small black terrier. Wiese says Kenneth Harrison told them he was cleaning out his car at a car wash and he noticed a black trash bag inside the garbage can that was moving and whimpering. Wiese says Harrison told them pulled the bag from the garbage can opened it up and found a small black dog inside.
Harrison was labeled a good samaritan by the Humane Society but then the story took an interesting twist. Wiese says they sent a picture of the pup to media outlets. She says people that knew Harrison then contacted them saying the dog Harrison rescued was really his dog.
Investigators contacted Harrison who admitted he made up the story so he could surrender the dog without being charged a fee or fined for not having the dog licensed. Wiese says they do request a small fee for surrendering an animal but it is not required. Harrison was cited for making up the tall “tail” about the animal rescue.
