What started as a routine call for an Omaha Fire Department rescue squad took a very interesting twist Monday afternoon. At 3:30, fire department medics were sent to a convenience store in the midtown area to transport a female patient. Omaha Police spokesperson Lt. Darci Tierney says the ambulance was on its way to a hospital when a medic inside sent out a “help a firefighter” call.
Lt. Tierney says the woman they were transporting had pulled out a revolver and fired one shot before being subdued.
The medic was grazed by a bullet and will be ok. The female patient was loaded into another ambulance in serious condition and was taken to another hospital for treatment. The female patient has not been positively identified as Lt. Tierney says she has given several names so they are trying to verify her true identity. Police suspect the woman was faking the seizure.
