The former police chief of a small Panhandle town has pleaded no contest to sexual assault of a child.
The Attorney General’s office reports former Hemingford Police Chief Mark Lindburg pleaded no contest to one count of attempted first degree sexual assault of a child, a Class II felony, which carries a possible sentence of up to 50 years in prison.
“This man was in a place of leadership and a sworn officer of the law,” Attorney General Jon Bruning said in a written statement released by his office. “His behavior was reprehensible and we will do everything we can to ensure he is held accountable for his crime.”
According to the AG office, an investigation disclosed Lindburg had engaged in sexual interactions with an underage girl while on duty as police chief of Hemingford.
Lindburg is scheduled to be sentenced August 28th in Box Butte County District Court.
