A prison inmate who escaped in Lincoln, jumping out of a Nebraska Department of Correctional Services’ vehicle at a busy intersection and running, has been re-captured.The department identified the inmate as 33-year-old Juan Ramirez.
Ramirez’ escape from an inmate work detail set off a massive manhunt immediately, including a helicopter flying over the area of escape.
According to the Department of Correctional Services, Ramirez jumped out of the vehicle while being transported by Community Corrections Center-Lincoln staff. They were returning to the community center.
The escape occurred after law officers issued Ramirez a ticket while speaking to him at the work detail site about an alleged burglary of a nearby residence yesterday. Ramirez is serving 10 to 15 years in prison for two counts of possessing a stolen firearm as well as a count of burglary from Dawes County. His tentative release date had been April 7th of 2015.
