Sen. Beau McCoy of Omaha is moving up in the organization Council of State Governments.
McCoy has been elected First Vice Chairman of the Midwestern Legislative Conference of the council, putting him in line to become national chairman.
“The Council of State Governments is really the only organization that really tries to find commonalities between the three branches, to make government smarter, to make government more efficient, hopefully, and to build those relationships that really, hopefully serve our citizens well,” McCoy tells Drive Time Lincoln on Nebraska Radio Network affiliate KLIN.
McCoy says he brings a unique perspective to the council, since he is a member of the only Unicameral in the country. He says he touts the role the Unicameral has played in maintaining Nebraska’s strong state economy.
McCoy’s election to leadership will bring the Council of State Governments to Nebraska. The Midwestern Legislative Conference will hold its annual meeting in Omaha next summer.
Also, McCoy now is in line to head the national organization in 2016.
