Nebraska suffered through a deadly weekend on state roads.
A two-car crash in northeast Nebraska killed one and injured three others Sunday evening.
The Nebraska State Patrol reports 53-year-old James Pfeifer of Clarkson drove in front of a southbound pick-up driven by 19-year-old Cole Beyke of Stanton in the intersection of Highways 57 and 32 eight miles south of Stanton. Pfeifer’s wife, 51-year-old Peggy Pfeifer, died in the wreck. James and his daughter, Peggy Pfeifer, suffered severe injuries and are being treated in Sioux City. Beyke is being treated in Faith Regional Hospital in Norfolk.
A 17-year-old Amish youth died Sunday morning and his sister was injured when a car crashed into the horse-drawn buggy they were riding in rural southeast Nebraska.
The Pawnee County Sheriff’s office reports 17-year-old Rueben Yoder died in the accident. 20-year-old Fannie Yoder has been hospitalized with head injuries. The driver of the car, 56-year-old Vivian Cockrell of Pawnee City, was treated and released.
A 49-year-old Shelby man died Sunday morning after his car rolled on a Nance County road four miles west of Genoa. The Nebraska State Patrol reports Robert Fischer lost control while driving south, over-corrected, then ran into the ditch and flipped.
Friday afternoon, a semi-tractor trailer crashed into a line of cars stopped at a construction site. The Cass County Sheriff’s office says 13-year-old Nathan Houfek died in the wreck. Three others suffered injuries. The office reports the truck crested a hill and couldn’t stop in time, crashing into the cars stalled on a construction site on Highway 75 near Plattsmouth.
