The USA Baseball Collegiate National Team took a 3-0 series lead over Cuba after winning two games at Werner Park over the weekend. After grabbing a 2-1 win in 11 innings on Thursday night in Des Monies, IA, the U.S. won another extra inning game, with a 3-2 win in ten over Cuba Friday night. Indiana’s Kyle Schwarber drove in the eventual game-winner with a sacrifice fly.
On Saturday, four USA pitchers combined to hold Cuba to four hits and didn’t allow a runner past first base en route to a 1-0 victory.
The win ensures the series for Team USA. The Collegiate National Team is 18-3 overall this summer and 3-0 against Cuba. The series shifts to North Carolina for the final two games. UNLV’s Erick Fedde will start game four Monday night at the National Training Complex in Cary. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. (ET).
