Former Nebraska baseball player Cody Asche got a wake up call early Tuesday morning from his Triple-A manager Dave Brundage at Lehigh Valley. Brundage woke Asche up to tell him the parent club, the Philadelphia Phillies, were calling him up to the big leagues.
Asche, a fourth round pick in 2011 by the Phils was hitting .295 with 15 homers and 68 RBIs for the IronPigs. He came in as a pinch hitter and popped up in the seventh. Manager Charlie Manuel expects Asche to make his first major league start tonight.
