A sea of red begins to descend into Lincoln: Bumper-to-bumper traffic along 180 into downtown, the aroma of good food from tailgates around Memorial Stadium and some footballs being tossed back and forth by fans dressed in red – one kid wearing a cornhead and some red “N” warpaint.
That can only mean one thing… It’s game day in Nebraska!
The Huskers look to extend the nation’s longest winning streak in season openers to 27 tonight. The Huskers have never lost to Wyoming (6-0 all-time), but the Cowboys are touting one of the most explosive offenses in the Mountain West Conference – testing a young defense. However, a questionable Cowboy’s defense could be the Achilles’ heel, ranking among the worst teams in rushing defense (108th) and passing defense (108th) last season.
Both teams will be contending with the heat. Temperatures are expected to be in the lower 90s at kickoff. Head coach Bo Pelini says the team has prepared for the heat and the guys are fresh, ready to go.
“We’re going to use a lot of our depth… play a lot of guys and try to wear the other football team out.”
Kickoff is slated for 7:00 tonight. Stay with nebraskaradionetwork.com for post-game reaction and audio from players and coaches. You can also follow our game day reporter Jonathan Daniels on Twitter (@NewsDudeJon), with updates and reports throughout the game.
