A former director of the YWCA in Lincoln has been accused of embezzling more than $34,000 from the Y.
It isn’t the first time Denise Scholl-Serrett has been accused of stealing from her employer.
Lincoln Police Officer Katie Flood says the YWCA contacted police earlier this year after a forensic accountant discovered spending not associated with the position.
“Those purchases included expenses on a personal trip, extra payroll checks and purchases for food, alcohol and clothing,” Flood says.
Flood says Denise Scholl-Serrett has been charged with felony theft by deception. Flood adds there are other numerous suspicious transactions that they are still investigating.
Suspicions arose at the YWCA after officials there learned that Scholl-Serrett had stolen thousands from DEI Communities, an Omaha-based property management company where she had been vice president of human resources.
