Under brilliant blue skies, the Nebraska football team mingled with nearly 6,000 Big Red fans on the glimmering green of the new FieldTurf under the shadows of the new East Stadium on Fan Day Friday.
On a perfect day for football, autograph signing, photo snapping and just about anything else, the 2013 version of the Huskers celebrated the unofficial opening of Fall Camp under sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-80s.
The Huskers, who are entering their third season in the Big Ten, are ranked 18th in the USA Today Coaches Poll released Thursday. NU begins their first of 24 fall camp practices Monday evening before opening play at home against Wyoming on Saturday, Aug. 31.
Prior to the festivities on the field, select Nebraska football players including seniors Jason Ankrah, Andrew Green and Jeremiah Sirles along with junior Jamal Turner met with members of the media to kick-off fall camp.
As the Huskers gear up for the start of fall camp, Sirles said Nebraska’s expectations are high.
“Our expectations are kind of what they have always been – to win. A lot of us are going into our senior season, and it would be great to go out as a champion, so that is the expectation we have, to win the Big Ten Championship,” Sirles said. “That is what we came out with last year, and that is what we are coming out with this year. Win them all the way.”
