The Nebraska-Kearney and Wayne State volleyball teams were ranked in the first, AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) Division II Top 25 Coaches Preseason Poll. The Lopers are ranked third following a 35-3 record and the Wildcats, 20th in a vote conducted by various Division II head coaches from across the country.
Wayne State finished the 2012 season with a record of 22-10 overall, placing fourth in the Northern Sun Conference with a 14-6 league record while advancing to the NCAA Division II National Tournament for an eighth straight season. The Lopers went 16-1 in league play and won the MIAA Conference post season tournament.
