A judgment topping one million dollars has been levied against a Chadron resident accused of receiving money for Medicaid services never provided.
Jennie Miller, owner of Healing Plains Mental Health in Chadron, pleaded no contest nearly a year ago to a single count of fraudulently obtaining payment on behalf of a recipient of medical assistance. Miller was placed on one year probation and ordered to pay the cost of prosecution.
Now, Miller faces a $1.3 million judgment.
According to the Attorney General’s office, Miller received payment for nearly $47,000 in Medicaid services never rendered. She also received $430,000 for Medicaid services without providing substantiation documentation. The court ordered triple civil damages in accordance with state law.
“Stealing from Medicaid is stealing from Nebraskans,” said Attorney General Jon Bruning in a written statement released by his office. “Providers who abuse the system will be held accountable.”
