The No. 6 Creighton men’s soccer team opened the season with a 2-0 victory over No. 14 Tulsa after scoring a pair of second-half goals at Morrison Stadium on Friday night.
After a scoreless first half, freshman Fabian Herbers scored his first career goal as a Bluejay at 62:17 to give Creighton a 1-0 advantage. Taking a ball from sophomore Timo Pitter, Herbers knocked in a shot from the right side past Golden Hurricane goalie Cody Mumma for the score.
Pitter added a late goal of his own with just over three minutes remaining. After successive attempts from the right side late in the match, Pitter finally put one past Mumma just inside the left post to give the Jays the two-goal victory. The Bluejays posted 21 shots in the match to 19 from Tulsa. Pitter recorded nine of those shots including four shots on goal.
Junior Alex Bolowich earned his first victory of the year in goal for the Jays, making seven saves on the evening.
