Southern Miss opened their season with a 22-15 loss to Texas State. It was the Golden Eagles’ 13th loss in a row which started last year in Lincoln when the Huskers beat them 49-20.
I saw an article from Creg Stephenson of GulfLive.com, writing about this game. Southern Miss senior linebacker Dylan Reda was quoted as saying “Last year, I was kind of awe-struck to play Nebraska. Then when we lined up and played and played, they don’t have better athletes than us, they’re not more well-coached than us. They’re people just like us. They have great tradition and they’re a great program and they execute very well. That’s what makes them a good team.”
Despite losing to Texas State, which by the way is in San Marcos, just outside San Antonio, Southern Miss has a new quarterback, senior Allan Bridgford who transferred from Cal. Defensive coordinator John Papuchis compares him a bit to Brett Smith of Wyoming and their looking at his film from Cal.
