The University of Nebraska Medical Center is awarded $11.2-million in a renewal grant for nanotechnology research. Dr. Tatiana Bronish is the principal grant investigator and the director of the Nebraska Medical Center for Nanomedicine and says this will help fine-tune this cutting-edge technology.
Dr Bronish says, “Nanotechnology is all about finding ways to improve delivery of the drug to the site of the action. We want to better target drugs right to the exact site that needs to be treated. With the cancer we want to get right to the tumor site. This grant is very special in its nature because it definitely is an interdisciplinary grant which involves people from different areas of medical research with the expertise in the different disciplines and diseases.”
The $11.2-million will be awarded over a five year period. The grant was first funded in 2008.
