Weekend flooding in North Platte

September 23, 2013 By Karla James

Residents along the South Platte River in North Platte were impacted by the flooding over the weekend as a second surge of water pushed through. Liz Dorland is the spokesperson with the American Red Cross Nebraska Southwest Iowa Region says they are assisting residents with flooded property by providing clean up kits and other supplies.

Dorland says they are also focusing attention to neighboring towns downstream and over the weekend delivered flooding information to those along the North Platte River. Two of their emergency vehicles are now positioned in Gothenburg and they are equipped with supplies for Red Cross workers to help residents during flooding. Workers also assisted sandbaggers in Brady and Maxwell over the weekend by providing water and snacks.

The Red Cross and emergency management continue to monitor the situation carefully and encourage those along the Platte River east of North Platte to prepare for possible flooding.
