Every school should have a safety plan in place in case there is a tragedy like what happened in Columbine or Sandy Hook. Sarpy County Sheriff Jeff Davis says schools have plans in place to keep students safe in the event of a tornado, fire and earthquake but few have a plan in place if there is a shooter in a building.
Sheriff Davis says, “There have been more school shootings than there have been earthquakes, tornados and fires and we need to practice. We need to be ready. It is not about being afraid but being ready.”
Sheriff Davis has organized a day long symposium on Wednesday, September 25th at the Ralston Arena to address school safety and practices. The father of a girl killed in a Colorado shooting will be the keynote speaker.
The symposium is from 9:00 am until 3:30 pm and is open to the public at no charge.
