More than 100 delegates from law enforcement and affiliate agencies from six countries are in Omaha today taking part in a Social Media and Internet Law Enforcement Conference (SMILE). Officer Scott Mills is a Toronto Police Communications and Social Media expert and says he is teaching participants how use Facebook and twitter to engage the public to help hunt down bad guys.
Officer Mills this morning shared information on behalf of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the New Brunswick Crime Stoppers about a suspected child molester. The attendees then broadcast pictures on social media making a global appeal to identify him. Officer Mills is hoping that others see and share the pictures on their own Facebook or twitter accounts and that will lead to his identification and arrest.
