Veterans in Nebraska and Western Iowa will still receive care at the facility in Omaha while the government is shut down.
Public Affairs Officer and Congressional Liaison for the U-S Department of Veterans Affairs for the Nebraska – Western Iowa Health Care System, Will Ackerman says there is no changes in services provided. Facilities throughout the state are open and providing services.
The V-A has funds available to ensure claims processing and payments in the compensation, pension, education and vocational rehabilitation programs will continue through late October. However, in the event of a prolonged shutdown, claims processing and payments will be suspended when funds are exhausted. Overtime pay for claims processors has ended.
Regarding the National Cemetery Administration, interments will continue but may be on a reduced schedule.
Ackerman says they continue to update the Veterans Field Guide to Government Shutdown online and that can be found at “va.gov”.
