A 53-year-old Fairbury man died last night from injuries in a one-vehicle traffic wreck east of his hometown. Excessive speed and alcohol are suspected to have played a role in the fatal crash.
Anthony DeBourge died at a Lincoln hospital after being stabilized at Jefferson County Hospital.
Jefferson County Sheriff Nels Sorensen says DeBourge’s pickup was westbound on Nebraska Highway 8 when the truck went off the highway into the south ditch, slid sideways and rolled. DeBourge was ejected from the vehicle. The truck entered a wooded area, snapping off several trees and uprooting others.
Emergency crews found DeBourge south of the pickup. Sorensen says speed and alcohol are suspected as factors in the crash. DeBourge was not wearing a seatbelt. The truck was destroyed.
In January, DeBourge’s wife Suzan was killed when her small sport utility vehicle slid on an icy U.S. Highway 136, into the path of a pickup, near the Gage-Jefferson County line.
