Excellent results from recent alcohol compliance check

October 21, 2013 By Karla James

On October 18th, the Nebraska State Patrol checked 54 retail alcohol outlets in Douglas County to see if they were selling to minors. Only one was found not in compliance.

Sgt. Bob Elliott says it is too soon to see if this is a new trend. He says they also need to tackle the problem of adults buying alcohol for children. He says they do not use trick tactics in their compliance checks. He says they use real minors with their actual identifications. He says those involved look underage and they are very easy to spot if the clerk is paying attention.

Sgt. Elliott encourages everyone to write this number down and keep it handy – 1-866-MUST BE 21. That is the number to report any underage drinking or to report if an adult purchased alcohol for minors.

This compliance check was conducted in part to a $2,920 grant from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety.
